The devastation caused by Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023, left hundreds of residents with damaged, unlivable homes – on top of a regional housing shortage, this was not good news. Modspace reached out to local Māori organisation Toitu Tairawhiti to offer our assistance. We soon established there was substantial alignment between our values and that of the client, along with a motivation to achieve a remarkable outcome for the East Coast community. With exceptional leadership from Toitu Tairawhiti and collaboration with Te Tuapapa Kura Kainga (MHUD), Tatou Tatou o Te Wairoa and Ngati Pahauwera, we were engaged to supply a large number of Modspace® Homes at rapid speed.
We supplied in total 39 homes and 8 ablution blocks to the locations marked below. At full production we were completing 1 x home every 3 days.
Witnessing the tears of appreciation for desperate residents who now had a place to call home, was a privilege.
